Generative AI Training Enhances Creativity in Fashion Design

Axis Institute of Fashion Technology, functioning under Axis Colleges, recently organized a value-added training program on Generative AI (Gen AI) for the students of Fashion and Textile Design. The three-day program was conducted at the Axis Colleges campus in Kanpur from 26 February 2026 to 28 February 2026. The aim of the program was to introduce students to the growing role of artificial intelligence in the fashion and textile industry and help them understand how technology can support creativity and innovation in design.

The training included hands-on sessions on Midjourney and Weavy, two advanced generative AI tools that help designers create high-quality visuals from simple text prompts. Midjourney mainly focused on the creative side of design by helping students generate artistic concepts and visual ideas. On the other hand, Weavy provided more technical guidance and helped students understand how AI can be used in the practical design workflow. Through these tools, students learned how technology can support designers in visualizing ideas quickly and effectively.

The program was conducted under the expert guidance of Ms. Poonkuzzhali P.K., Founder and Creative Head of Studio PKP, Bangalore. She shared her industry experience and explained how artificial intelligence is transforming the fashion and textile sector. Her sessions helped students understand the connection between traditional design thinking and modern digital tools.

During the training, students explored different stages of the design process using AI. They worked on concept development, silhouette exploration, and presentation techniques. Students created inspiration boards, mood boards, and colour boards while also learning how to study their target customer profiles. They developed ideas for complete collections and improved their understanding of design analysis, visual storytelling, and creative direction.

Students also learned how to convert handmade sketches into technical flat sketches and create digital prints and patterns. The node-based interface of Weavy allowed them to experiment with more practical and production-oriented design methods. This approach encouraged innovation while helping students develop skills that are useful for real industry situations.

The program also highlighted the importance of sustainability in the fashion industry. The use of AI can reduce material waste, support eco-friendly design choices, enable virtual sampling, and improve production planning. These practices help promote responsible and sustainable fashion.

Such futuristic training initiatives support the institute’s vision of preparing students for the future. Following the “Tomorrow First” vision of the Institute’s Chairman, Mr. Raj Kushwaha

Axis Institute of Fashion Technology continues to organize programs that help students stay updated with industry trends and build strong careers in the fashion and textile industry.
