Ursula Horsman Memorial Hospital Visit Axis Institute of Pharmacy Students Gain Real-World Experience through Hospital Training at U.H.M. Hospital, Kanpur
At Axis Colleges, we believe that education is most impactful when students are given the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. Keeping this philosophy at the forefront, the Axis Institute of Pharmacy organized a practical training program for students of the Sophomore Diploma Program at the Ursula Horsman Memorial, Kanpur.
This immersive training experience was a significant part of the students’ curriculum, aiming to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the healthcare environment. The focus was on equipping future pharmacy professionals with a deep understanding of hospital operations, patient interactions, and the critical role of pharmacists in a clinical setting.
During the training, students actively participated in the Dispensing Section and the Out Patient Department (OPD). These departments serve as essential points of contact between patients and the medical system, and offered students valuable exposure to various pharmacy practices and protocols.
Key learning experiences included:
- Taking Patient Histories: Understanding the importance of documenting accurate medical and medication histories.
- OPD Procedures: Observing how outpatient care is managed and learning to assist in non-emergency consultations.
- Drug Store Management: Gaining insight into how hospital pharmacies maintain their inventory and manage supply chains.
- Medication Storage and Dispensing: Learning about proper storage conditions for different drugs, expiry monitoring, and the safe and accurate dispensing of prescriptions.
- Stock Maintenance and Record Keeping: Understanding how to maintain and update records for inventory management, ensuring that essential medications are always available and correctly logged.
This hands-on exposure not only strengthened the students’ technical knowledge but also helped them build essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and ethical responsibility in patient care.
Axis Colleges continually strives to provide students with experiential learning opportunities that prepare them for the challenges and responsibilities of the healthcare industry. By integrating training sessions and hospital visits into the academic framework, we ensure that our students are industry-ready, confident, and capable of making meaningful contributions to society.
