Axis Institute of Architecture Rajasthan Educational Tour

B.Arch Students Embark on an Insightful Educational Tour to Rajasthan

The Bachelor of Architecture students of Axis Institute of Architecture embarked on an enriching educational tour to Rajasthan, offering them an opportunity to experience the rich architectural, cultural, and historical heritage of the region beyond the boundaries of the classroom.

The tour is an integral part of the students’ five-year architectural journey, encouraging them to observe, analyse, document, and understand architecture through direct experience.

On the first day of the educational tour in Jaipur, students visited some of the city’s most iconic architectural landmarks, including the magnificent Hawa Mahal and the historic Amer Fort, along with other significant sites across the city.

These visits allowed students to closely observe architectural elements, spatial planning, façade treatment, construction techniques, materials, ornamentation, climatic responses, and the relationship between built heritage and its surrounding context.

The visit to Hawa Mahal provided students with an opportunity to understand the thoughtful use of jharokhas, perforated screens, natural ventilation, daylight, and façade composition.

Amer Fort introduced them to the grandeur of historic fort architecture, spatial organisation, courtyards, defensive planning, materiality, and intricate craftsmanship.

Educational tours play a significant role in architectural education as they transform theoretical knowledge into tangible learning experiences. By physically encountering buildings and spaces, students develop stronger visual perception, spatial understanding, critical thinking, observation skills, and architectural sensitivity.

Such experiences enable them to understand how architectural ideas evolve in response to culture, climate, technology, materials, history, and human requirements.

The Rajasthan tour also provided students with insights into the relationship between heritage, tourism, and marketing techniques, demonstrating how historic architecture can be presented, interpreted, and promoted to attract visitors while creating awareness about cultural identity and conservation. This exposure helps students understand architecture not merely as a built form, but as an experience that interacts with people, society, economy, and place.

At Axis Institute of Architecture, educational tours are encouraged as an essential component of holistic architectural learning. Such journeys complement studio-based education by giving students the opportunity to encounter real spaces, interact with diverse environments, and develop a deeper understanding of the architectural profession.

The Rajasthan educational tour thus marks another meaningful step in the students’ architectural journey, inspiring them to observe beyond drawings, learn beyond classrooms, and experience architecture in its authentic context.
