IELTS-Level English Assessment Test Conducted for Civil Engineering Students

The Department of Civil Engineering at Axis Institute of Technology and Management, Kanpur, conducted an IELTS-level English Assessment Test for its final-year students as part of its sustained focus on employability and global competence.
Designed in line with international evaluation frameworks, the assessment tested candidates on the four fundamental components of language proficiency—reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The exercise aimed to provide students with a clear, standardised measure of their communication skills, enabling them to identify gaps and align themselves with the expectations of multinational recruiters and academic institutions abroad.
The programme was held under the guidance of Manager Placement, Ms. Kirandeep Kaur and Md. Shariq, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, they both emphasised that effective communication has become an integral part of engineering practice. “Technical proficiency must be complemented by the ability to articulate concepts, collaborate in diverse teams, and present solutions persuasively. Language skills are no longer optional; they are essential to professional advancement,” they said.
Dr. Ashish Malik, Director of the institute, appreciated the initiative of placement cell and encouraged students to leverage such platforms for self-improvement. “Assessments of this nature help students benchmark themselves against global standards and build the confidence required for placements, higher studies, and cross-border collaborations,” he remarked.
Students engaged actively in the assessment and found it instrumental in assessing their current capabilities. Based on the results, the institute will curate follow-up measures, including focused training sessions, communication workshops, and mock interviews, to address specific learning needs.
The initiative underscores Axis Institute’s commitment to producing industry-ready graduates equipped with both domain expertise and the communication acumen necessary to thrive in competitive national and international environments.
