The Bachelor of fashion & Apparel Design (BFAD) 6th Semester students recently showcased their leather products.
As part of their Design & Development of Leather project, They created a diverse range of leather products that demonstrate both creativity and technical craftsmanship.
The Jury, assessed by an industry expert, provided students with an excellent platform to present their creativity, craftsmanship, and overall development as future fashion professionals.
The development process focused on combining functionality, aesthetics, and durability. Each product was carefully designed to meet contemporary fashion and lifestyle needs while showcasing the versatility of leather as a material.
Through experimentation with different forms, textures, and construction techniques, They were able to create products suitable for both fashion and utility purposes.Their collection includes Harnesses, corset belts, hand accessories, ties, leather skirts, leather bags, belts, earrings, footwear attachments, waistcoats and waistcoat accessories, neck pieces, scarves, sunglasses holders, potli bags, tote bags, wristbands, table mats, caps, purses, diary covers, accessory holders, detachable collars, and mobile sling bags.
A variety of materials were used during the production process. These included original leather sourced from sheep, goat, cow, and buffalo hides, as well as synthetic leather and suede. To enhance product quality and comfort, we incorporated textile lining and suede leather lining.
Additional components such as buckles, eyelets, rivets, snap buttons, magnetic snaps, cords, adhesives, and 3D outliners were used for structural support, functionality, and decorative detailing. The manufacturing process required precision and skilled craftsmanship.
Several specialized tools were utilized throughout production, including punches, star punches, stitching punches, mallet hammers with mats, knives, sandpaper, reinforcement tape, hammers, scales, edge shiners, and edge finishers.
These tools enabled accurate cutting, punching, stitching, shaping, and finishing of the products. Proper finishing techniques were applied to ensure clean edges, durability, and a professional appearance.
This project provided valuable hands-on experience in leather craftsmanship, product construction, and material handling. It also enhanced our understanding of design development, technical execution, and quality control.
The final collection reflects a balance of innovation, functionality, and craftsmanship, demonstrating their ability to create market-ready leather products that meet industry standards and consumer expectations.
