J.K. Cancer Hospital Axis Institute of Pharmacy Observes World Cancer Day with a Compassionate Visit to J.K. Cancer Hospital.
On the occasion of World Cancer Day, observed every year on February 4th, the Wings Pharmakon Society of Axis Institute of Pharmacy, under the banner of Axis Colleges, organized a meaningful and impactful visit to J.K. Cancer Hospital, Kanpur. Aligned with the global theme for 2023—“Close the Care Gap”—the initiative focused on raising awareness about the disparities in cancer treatment and promoting equitable healthcare for all.
The visit was not merely symbolic but carried a strong message of empathy, solidarity, and social responsibility. Pharmacy scholars from Axis Colleges, accompanied by faculty members, visited the hospital and distributed fruit baskets to 110 cancer patients. This small gesture served as a token of care, comfort, and compassion for those battling one of the most challenging diseases.
The event was graced by Dr. S.N. Prasad, Director of J.K. Cancer Hospital, who addressed the students and staff during the visit. He shared vital insights into the causes, symptoms, and preventive measures related to various types of cancer, with a strong emphasis on Breast Cancer, Oral (Mouth) Cancer, and Uterus Cancer—conditions that are prevalent yet often neglected in terms of early diagnosis and treatment.
Dr. Prasad commended the student volunteers for their compassionate efforts and encouraged them to continue advocating for health awareness in society. He emphasized the importance of early detection, regular screening, and public education, particularly in rural and underprivileged communities where access to healthcare is limited.
The visit served as a dual-purpose experience—instilling social sensitivity among students while reinforcing their academic understanding of oncology and patient care. It also highlighted the role of pharmacists not just as dispensers of medicine, but as active contributors to public health initiatives.
Axis Colleges consistently promotes such initiatives that blend academic knowledge with social outreach, preparing students to be not only skilled professionals but also responsible citizens. Through this compassionate engagement, the students of Axis Institute of Pharmacy took a step forward in the global movement to “Close the Care Gap” and contribute meaningfully to the fight against cancer.
