Sewage Treatment Plant Visit Be a Recycler, Be a Saver: Axis Colleges’ Educational Visit to Sewage Treatment Plant, Kanpur

In line with the inspiring motto, “Be a recycler, Be a saver,” Axis Colleges organized an insightful visit to the Sewage Treatment Plant in Kanpur for its Pharmacy students as part of their academic curriculum.

Water pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, as untreated sewage often finds its way into ponds, lakes, and rivers, severely contaminating these natural water bodies. Beyond polluting the water streams, sewage discharge triggers hazardous algal blooms that threaten human health, suffocate vital coral reefs, and release excessive nutrients that disrupt delicate coastal ecosystems. Recognizing these serious impacts, the visit aimed to provide students with practical knowledge of sewage treatment as an effective solution.

During the visit, students explored the comprehensive sewage treatment process, which is instrumental in reducing water contamination. They learned about the three primary types of wastewater treatment: Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary stages. Each stage plays a critical role in removing contaminants from sewage, producing treated effluent safe enough for discharge into the environment or reuse applications.

A highlight of the visit was understanding how solid sludge generated during treatment is processed to produce methane gas, an environmentally friendly energy source. This biogas production not only prevents further water pollution but also contributes to sustainable environmental health, benefiting the community at large.

Axis Colleges remains deeply committed to fostering environmental awareness and community service among its students. Through initiatives like this educational visit, the institution empowers its scholars to become responsible citizens, equipped with the knowledge and passion to make meaningful contributions toward a cleaner and healthier world.
