Srinithyaa – Bachelor of Fashion & Apparel Designing Alumna

A Shining example of purpose driven design and conscious innovation, Srinithyaa, a proud alumna of the Bachelor of Fashion and Apparel Design (BFAD) program at the Axis Institute of Fashion Technology (AIFT), is redefining the future of fashion through sustainability, craftsmanship, and entrepreneurial vision.

Her journey has been recognized at the “National level” with the prestigious “CITI Textile Sustainability Award 2025 at Bharat Tex 2025” presented by Hon’ble Textile “Minister Pabitra Margherita” and the “Textile Commissioner” an achievement that highlights her leadership in circular fashion and sustainable innovation. Adding to her growing list of accolades, she was also honoured with the “Atal Award “2026 for “Young Innovators”, further cementing her position as a change maker in the sustainable fashion landscape.

From the creative studios of AIFT in Kanpur to establishing her own eco conscious label Maleema, Srinithyaa’s journey reflects a seamless blend of design thinking, ethical fashion, and brand story telling. Her brand, “Maleema” is emerging as a powerful voice in the space of luxury sustainable fashion, slow fashion, and gender-neutral design, rooted in purpose and innovation.

Her early career saw her working in the dynamic world of “Bollywood fashion styling” where she spent two years honing her expertise in celebrity styling, fashion direction, and trend forecasting. This exposure to high-fashion environments refined her aesthetic sensibility and deepened her understanding of the global fashion ecosystem.

With experience spanning roles as a fashion designer, merchandiser, educator, and sustainability advocate, Srinithyaa brings a holistic approach that connects creative design, supply chain strategy, and fashion business management. Her work stands at the intersection of innovation, craftsmanship, and conscious consumerism.

Driven by the urgent need to address fashion pollution and textile waste, Srinithyaa founded Maleema with a visionary “Farm to Fashion” model. “The brand transforms agro-waste and natural fibers into premium, eco-friendly textiles” aligning with global movements like circular economy, zero-waste design, and regenerative fashion systems.

A key strength of Maleema lies in its ethical supply chain and artisan led production model. Collaborating closely with farmers, handloom weavers, and rural women artisans, Srinithyaa has spent the past three years building and nurturing community-driven craft clusters.

Her initiative promotes artisan empowerment, fair trade practices, and preservation of indigenous textile traditions, while generating sustainable livelihoods.

Further strengthening her impact, “Srinithyaa is also a certified fashion lawyer, equipped with expertise in fashion law, intellectual property rights (IPR)” sustainability regulations, and ethical manufacturing frameworks.

This unique combination enables her to advocate for responsible fashion practices and policy level change within the industry.

Currently, she is making significant contributions as a sustainability consultant for government projects, working on initiatives such as circular textile systems, eco-innovation in technical textiles, artisan upliftment programs, and sustainable value chain development.

Her mission is clear to merge heritage crafts with modern innovation, champion sustainable luxury, and position Indian fashion at the forefront of the global ethical fashion movement. Through her work,

“Srinithyaa is not just building a brand; she is shaping a future where fashion is responsible, inclusive, and regenerative.”
